HILDRUM FARM

The Namsen River runs through the county of Nord- Trøndelag in the northern part of Central Norway.

This is the country’s heartland, where rich agricultural plains contrast with majestic mountains and a rocky coastline. Its springs are in the Børgefjell National Park and its estuary near the town of Namsos.

The total salmon running stretch of the Namsen river system is around 175 kilometres including the main tributaries (Bjøra and Sandøla). The salmon running stretch in the main stream is 74 kilometres.

Accomodation
Hildrum Gård is located in the middle of Overhalla, a village 20 km from Namsos airport and 25 km from Grong railway station.

The farm’s main building is built in the traditional style of the region. Rebuilt after a fire in 1993, it was modelled and reconstructed on the original building which dated from 1711.

The house has 7 bedrooms, all of them en-suite. Three are doubles. Meals are served in the period dining rooms. There is also a separate meeting/ conference room. We offer facilities for storage of equipment, and packaging and freezing your fish.

Our aim is to give our guests a high standard of accommodation, service and food, all in the unique atmosphere of our historic farm. We are fully licensed and we arrange regular gourmet evenings, offering for example a five-course game menu.

If your interests extend to hunting, we can also arrange hunts for small game, as well as for deer and elk. Our guests’ wellbeing is paramount to us and we make every effort to give you exactly the stay you want. We look forward to hearing from you and will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Fishing
Currently we offer two good salmon beats in the Namsen River, the Hildrum beat and the Storem beat. We also rent other beats as required. The beats are well suited both for traditional fishing (or harling) from a boat and for fishing from the bank. Shelters are available along the river bank. You can see them for yourself on our webcam at hildrumgard.no

The Hildrum beat, 20 kilometres from the river mouth, is about 700 m. long and double bank. It is best suited for harling, with the gillie rowing and the angler fishing. The Storem beat, about 8 kilometres upstream, is approx 550 m. long and double bank.

The lower part of Storem Beat has very exciting rapids, and is perfect for fly fishing from bank. Though when the water levels are high, harling is recommended. There are shelters along the riverbank. The Hildrum beat is renowned for its big salmon. In 2004 the biggest salmon caught on rod in Norway was caught on Hildrum beat, 24.3 kilos. Primetime: The best time to catch the big salmon is in early June. Grilse normally arrive in the last week of June. In 2005, 123 salmon were caught on these two beats, totalling 440 kg. The average weight was 3.6 kg. Hildrum Gård stretches are normally fished by 6 - 8 anglers. Hildrum Gård has a team of excellent guides and rowers, that help our guests to enjoy the best fishing.
